I have personally tested and have observed application of the R.A.T.S. (Rapid Application Tourniquet System)/Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) ® by another individual. By far, it is the fastest and easiest tourniquet to apply of all that I have used in both military and civilian environments. To test its functionality, I personally applied it to my upper arm as well as forearm, and found doppler confirmed ablation of both radial and ulnar arterial pulses. I had the same results with ablation of the dorsalis pedis and posterior tibialis pulses with applying the R.A.T.S. above or below the knee over clothing, again confirmed by doppler. To reinforce the ease of use, I had my daughter, a first year nursing student, apply it to herself obtaining the same results.

In short, this RATS tourniquet is advancement over current technology for a series of reasons. First it is lighter. smaller and simpler; making it less expensive to acquire and carry. However, more importantly it is easier to employ than the current CAT tourniquet, easier to train as well as instruct another team member to apply. (During training I have given myself a sensory nerve injury to the thigh self-applying the CAT tourniquet).

On a personal note, I carry in my personal vehicle a kit to provide lifesaving emergency care and after testing the RATS tourniquet I have exchanged this item in my own kit replacing the other competitive products for all of the re.a.sons above.

The point that stood out the best, with emergency medical technicians and combat veterans was the ability to use the tourniquet in low light conditions and the ability to keep their gloves on in a tactical environment while applying your tourniquet. In addition, the medics with tactical combat experience also liked the “silence” of the tourniquet as compared to the tourniquets that rely on Velcro, they also appreciated the fact that your tourniquet does not get tangled up in their bags or on their tactical vest.

The R.A.T.S. (Rapid Application Tourniquet System)/Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) ® tourniquet was tested for over a month by our law enforcement and military veterans and performed or exceeded standards each time.

Of note, we understand that he R.A.T.S/(TCCC) ® tourniquet is a one-time use product, but I can assure you, during the purposes of field testing. We reused the tourniquet several times each and had no detectable reduction in efficiency.

We look forward to ordering more tourniquets for our equipment packages as well as our staff and look forward to you providing your Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)® courses for us in the future.

Here at Sierra 4 Foxtrot Training Group, we have been actively training with the R.A.T.S tourniquet with our law enforcement, tactical medics, rescue task force, and community partners crisis medical programs. Having used many of the commonly available tourniquets, the R.A.T.S tourniquet is that fastest and easiest to teach and to use. With the proven effectiveness of the tourniquet and its simplicity to use, we have switched to using the tourniquet almost exclusively in all our training in addition to placing it in all our retail medic kits.

We train hard for those that play hard, and the R.A.T system has not failed us. As with all training or operation gear, we do what we can to push them to their limits. We do what we can to see where they fail. So far, after several months, training sessions and uses, the R.A.T.S Tourniquet is still day one ready. It is almost like a special forces guy designed it (Ha-ha). We would HIGHLY recommend the use of the R.A.T.S Tourniquet to anyone and everyone. I, like many carry one everywhere I go. If saving yourself, your loved ones or others is your mission, R.A.T.S Tourniquets are for you!

It is a simple and superior lifesaving device. The device design enables rapid deployment, including self-application, with minimal training and effective benefit. I have personally trained first responders, law enforcement, and military units in the use of the RATS Tourniquet and remain convinced that it is the simplest and most effective tourniquet to deploy in all situations.

As RATS Tourniquet is small and lightweight, it will easily fit into any pocket or pouch and does not add weight or bulk to any chest rig or personal blow-out kit. I keep this device as part of my trauma kits.

As a medical professional, I recommend RATS Tourniquet without reservation.

The Rapid Application Tourniquet System has proven itself to be an effective and affordable option in stopping blood loss from the extremities which is the single biggest factor in a preventable death under the TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) guidelines.

The Rapid Application Tourniquet System can be rapidly and effectively implemented in military, law enforcement as well as civilian emergency medicine as a life-saving tool.
